Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie

About 95% of the time, I prefer to use raw almond butter or raw cashew butter instead of peanut butter. However, I do keep a jar of organic peanut butter in my pantry, because sometimes only peanut butter will do. Today was one of those days: I woke up craving a chocolate peanut butter cup. This decadent, extra-thick smoothie totally did the trick, and unlike the candy version, this “cup” will give me sustained energy throughout my morning! Here’s how to make it:

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER CUP SMOOTHIE

Ingredients:
1 cup almond milk (coconut milk is also delicious in this recipe)
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1 Tbsp chia seeds
2 Tbsp rolled oats
1 frozen banana
2 Tbsp peanut butter (almond or cashew butter would also be yummy)
1 small handful of ice
1 scoop chocolate-flavored Amazing Grass Green Superfood powder (if you don’t have this on hand, you could substitute a teaspoon of raw cacao powder and a handful of fresh greens–you’d probably also want to toss in a couple of medjool dates or some agave nectar to counteract the bitterness of the cacao powder )

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients in a Vitamix or other high-powered blender until smooth and creamy. Enjoy! 🙂

  2. I’m exactly the same – I usually use a range of nut butters but you are so right, there are times when only peanut butter will satisfy. I make an almost identical smoothie and it is de-e-e-licious, and certainly kicks the craving 🙂
