Today, I was craving a mug of rich and comforting hot chocolate, but I had no nut milk. I had used the last of my raw almond milk in this morning’s smoothie, and I want to save my raw Brazil nut milk for tonight’s tomato soup. So I decided to improvise.
What makes a creamy, delicious “milk” with a slightly nutty flavor and doesn’t require soaking? Hemp seeds!
I combined the following ingredients to create 2 servings in less than 5 minutes:
Raw Hemp Seed Hot Chocolate
1/2 cup hemp seeds
2 cups water
12 small medjool dates
3 Tbsp raw cacao powder
1/2 tsp raw powdered vanilla bean
(Optional: next time, I might add a bit of cinnamon, peppermint, or some other flavoring, but for today, this combo hit the spot)
Blend in Vitamix (or other high-powered blender) for approximately 3-4 minutes. It will become warm enough for steam to rise from your blender. Yum!
